Streetsboro, OH — Drama unfolded in a parking lot next to the McDonald's on Route 14 Sunday as onlookers described an uncomfortable scene.
"Women were fainting. Men were crying." said McDonald's employee Antonio Pérez.
Secured with only a few strips of duct tape, the bumper of the Civic hatchback dangled precariously while bystanders could only watch in shock and disbelief.
"It's very horrible, because I can't help but think like, what if that was the bumper on my car?" said Pérez.
Although no injuries were reported, professional counselors will be available for those impacted by the incident.

Family used to live here! have to say, some of the nicest people i have ever met in the Fargo area but they got tired of the cold and moved to FL a few years ago lol

I had a civic basically identical to this and the rear bumper did like to fall off a lot, the mounts just sorta wore out. Our solution? Bolt a 2x4 to the back of the car and nail the bumper to the 2x4. Works much better than duct tape.

I had a Civic hatchback of the same vintage that had the same droopy-bumper problem after many frostbelt winters. My mechanic give me a bungee cord to hold the rear bumper on, much better than duct tape.

Come on, I'm from Wisconsin. I see shitboxes in far worse condition on the roads every day. I've seen people driving around with severe frontal damage from hitting a deer (headlights dangling from their wires, smashed windshields, hoods held down with bungee cords, missing grills, the whole nine inches.) on the roads every day.

I lived there and worked for Strata for almost a year. I actually like Fargo, but hated where it was. Haha. Too damn cold. But they did have some awesome bars and in the summer it was great.

This happens because the chassis attachment plates in the bumper are embedded in the high density foam material behind it and they weaken with water and heat over time. I used a two part metal epoxy and a few thick self tapping screws and my bumper is now stronger than when it came out of the factory. The owner of this car is a lazy asshat.

Thank you for this hard-hitting journalism. Most people in the world don't realize the sheer tragedy caused by duct tape body repairs. Literally tens of people worldwide are admitted to hospitals every decade for psychological trauma caused by this. It needs to stop now.
